Software comparison
Compare Cloud Accounting Software for Singapore
Most software comparison pages rank platforms by global popularity. That is close to useless if you file GST in Singapore, send invoices through InvoiceNow, or hand XBRL statements to ACRA. This comparison works from the criteria that decide whether a platform fits a Singapore SME: local tax handling, e-invoicing, filing exports, integrations, and the quality of support when something breaks.
Work through it in the order that matches your business: check GST handling and InvoiceNow depth first, then XBRL output, then bank and tool integrations, and only then compare price. The five criteria below do most of the sorting before you open a single demo.
Five questions before you shortlist
- Does it calculate 9% GST correctly across zero-rated, exempt, and reverse-charge transactions?
- Can it send and receive InvoiceNow documents, including inbound supplier invoices?
- Does it export a full XBRL statement for ACRA, or only a trial balance?
- How does it connect to DBS, OCBC, or UOB bank feeds and your existing tools?
- Who answers when something breaks in the week before a filing deadline?
The criteria that actually separate platforms
Ignore the feature grid for a moment. Five questions do most of the sorting, and each one has a different failure mode. A platform can pass GST arithmetic and still fail you on inbound e-invoicing. It can produce XBRL and still leave your accountant converting spreadsheets. Below is what each question actually tests, and the demo evidence that answers it.
Tax
GST handling
Zero-rated exports, exempt supplies, and reverse charge on imported services.
E-invoicing
InvoiceNow
Direct network transmission versus a third-party access point, and how inbound documents are coded.
Filing
XBRL for ACRA
A full statement export versus a trial balance your filing agent still has to convert.
Connections
Integrations
DBS, OCBC, and UOB bank feeds, plus payroll, e-commerce, and expense tools.
People
Support quality
Who replies, how fast, and whether they understand IRAS filing cycles.
GST handling, line by line
Every platform claims GST support. The differences show up in edge cases: zero-rated exports, exempt supplies, reverse charge on imported services, and credit notes that span a rate change. Ask to see a GST F5 report generated from sample data before you commit. If the vendor cannot produce one during a demo, that tells you how the first quarter will go.
Bring your own awkward transactions to the demo. A credit note dated after a rate change, a zero-rated export invoice, and a service purchased from an overseas supplier will expose more than any checklist. Ask where the reverse charge appears on the return and how it is reversed, and check whether the platform keeps an audit trail your accountant can follow.
What to ask for in the demo
- Zero-rated exportsShow a sales invoice coded as zero-rated and where it lands on the GST F5 boxes.
- Reverse chargeAsk how imported services are recorded and how the charge is reported and reversed.
- Credit notesPost a credit note that spans a rate change and check the return updates correctly.
- Audit trailConfirm your accountant can trace each adjustment back to the source document.
InvoiceNow readiness compared
InvoiceNow support varies in depth. Some platforms transmit invoices through the network directly; others integrate with a third-party access point. Some handle incoming invoices well, routing them into accounts payable with the right coding. Others treat e-invoicing as an outbound-only feature. For a business receiving hundreds of supplier invoices, inbound handling matters more than the outbound badge.
Outbound only
You can send an InvoiceNow document, but supplier invoices still arrive as PDFs and get keyed in by hand. Workable for a business that issues far more invoices than it receives.
Two-way via access point
Sending and receiving run through a partner access point. Inbound documents land in accounts payable with coding attached, which is where the real time saving appears.
Direct network transmission
The platform connects to the network itself, with fewer moving parts between your books and the exchange. Confirm the setup cost and who maintains the connection.
Whichever route a vendor takes, test it with a real document before you sign. Send one invoice to a customer and ask a supplier to send one back, then watch where the received document lands and whether the coding is correct without manual editing.
XBRL and ACRA filing support
XBRL export is rarely the headline feature, and it is often the one that causes the most friction. Check whether the platform generates a full XBRL statement or a trial balance your filing agent converts. Check which ACRA taxonomy version it supports. If your accountant prepares filings, ask them which format they prefer before you choose software around it.
What to confirm
Full statement export
The platform produces a complete XBRL statement ready to file. Fewer steps between your books and ACRA, but confirm the taxonomy version matches the current filing requirement and ask how updates are handled when the taxonomy changes.
What to confirm
Trial balance handoff
The platform exports a trial balance that your filing agent or accountant converts. This is common and perfectly workable, but it adds a step and a dependency. Agree the format and the handover date with your accountant before year end, not during it.
Integrations that matter in Singapore
Bank feeds from DBS, OCBC, and UOB reduce manual entry more than any other integration. Beyond banking, consider payroll providers, e-commerce platforms like Shopify and Shopee, and expense tools. A platform with a large global app store may still lack the specific local connector you need. Verify the connector exists before assuming it does.
Ask to see the connector running during a demo, not a screenshot of a directory listing. Check how often feeds refresh, what happens when a bank changes its login flow, and whether a broken feed raises a warning or fails silently until reconciliation.
Banking
DBS, OCBC, and UOB feeds for day-to-day reconciliation. The highest-value connection for most SMEs, and the first one to test.
Payroll
Payroll providers that push salary journals into the ledger, so month-end does not turn into a manual journal exercise.
E-commerce
Shopify and Shopee order and payout data, useful if you sell online and want revenue to land without re-keying.
Expenses
Receipt capture and staff expense tools that post directly to the right accounts, with the receipt attached to the entry.
Connector check
Confirm the connector exists for your specific bank and tool before you assume it does. A large app directory is not the same as a working local connection.
Local platforms versus global platforms
Financio and Info-Tech Accounting are built with Singapore compliance in mind and market local support directly. Xero, QuickBooks Online, and Zoho Books bring larger ecosystems and wider accountant familiarity. A Singapore-native product may handle a local edge case out of the box; a global platform may integrate with more of the tools you already use. Neither advantage cancels the other.
Singapore-native platforms
Financio, Info-Tech Accounting
Built with local compliance in mind and marketed with local support. Good fit when your questions are about GST edge cases and ACRA filing formats, and you want someone who answers in your filing calendar.
- Local support teams familiar with IRAS filing cycles.
- Local edge cases handled without workarounds.
- Smaller app ecosystems and fewer third-party connectors.
Global platforms
Xero, QuickBooks Online, Zoho Books
Larger ecosystems and wider accountant familiarity. A good fit when you already use tools in their app directories, or when your accountant works across several clients on the same platform.
- Broad connector libraries and integrations.
- Accountants and new hires often already know the interface.
- Local support hours and local edge cases can vary.
Modular ERP versus focused accounting
Odoo takes a different approach: accounting as one module inside a broader ERP. For a trading company managing inventory, sales orders, and accounting in one place, that can remove a layer of integration work. For a services firm with simple books, the same platform may be more configuration than necessary. Match the tool to your operational complexity, not to its feature list.
A useful test is to sketch your month-end close on one page. If that sketch needs inventory valuation, sales orders, and accounting to talk to each other, a modular ERP earns its setup cost. If it is a handful of invoices, a bank reconciliation, and a GST return, a focused accounting platform will get you there faster and with fewer people involved in the setup.
Which shape fits you
- Modular ERP suits
- Trading and distribution businesses where stock, orders, and books belong in one system.
- Focused accounting suits
- Services firms and small teams that need clean books, GST, and filing without a wide rollout.
- The honest test
- Write your month-end close on one page. Count the handoffs between systems. That number decides.
Where support quality shows up
Support is hard to compare on a website. Try this instead: send a pre-sales question on a Tuesday afternoon and note how long the reply takes and whether it answers the actual question. Ask whether support staff are based in Singapore and whether they understand IRAS filing cycles. Vendors with local teams tend to be busiest, and most useful, in the weeks around filing deadlines.
Before you buy
Send a real question
Ask something specific about GST or InvoiceNow. The reply tells you more than any support page.
Ask directly
Where is the team based
Local teams work your hours and know your filing calendar. Confirm it rather than assume it.
Then watch
Response in filing week
The weeks around GST and ACRA deadlines separate teams that are staffed from teams that are not.
Cost structures worth understanding
Pricing models differ in ways that matter at scale. Per-user pricing penalises growing teams; tiered plans often lock useful features like multi-currency into higher tiers. Implementation fees, migration costs, and training are frequently separate. Ask for a total first-year figure, not a monthly headline, and confirm what happens to your data if you leave.
Ask about
Per-user pricing
Every person who logs in adds a line. Fine for a small team, heavier as you hire. Ask what counts as a user and whether accountants and bookkeepers are billed.
Ask about
Tier gating
Multi-currency, multiple entities, and deeper reporting often sit in higher tiers. Confirm which tier covers the features you actually need before comparing headline prices.
Ask about
Setup and exit
Migration, data cleanup, and training are usually separate line items. Ask for a first-year total, and confirm how you export your data if you ever switch platforms.
Questions we get about comparing platforms
If your question is not here, send it and we will answer it plainly. We are an accounting software vendor, so we will tell you where another platform is the better fit for your business.
Do I need a Singapore-native platform to file GST and XBRL correctly?
No. Several global platforms handle GST and XBRL well. What matters is the depth of the local configuration and whether your accountant is comfortable with the output format. Confirm the ACRA taxonomy version the platform supports before you commit.
How much does InvoiceNow readiness actually change my workload?
Outbound sending saves a little time. Inbound handling saves the most, because supplier invoices arrive coded instead of as attachments someone has to read and key in. If you receive hundreds of supplier invoices a month, weight inbound handling heavily.
Can I migrate mid-year without disrupting my GST quarters?
Yes, but plan the cutover between GST periods rather than inside one. Bring opening balances, open invoices, and the fixed asset register across, then run one parallel check on the first quarter before you rely on the new books alone.
How do I check a vendor's registration before buying?
Ask for the corporate registration details and confirm them yourself before signing. Our vendor credibility page walks through what to look for, including how to check a company's registration and what a support commitment should say in writing.
Should my accountant be involved before I choose?
Yes, and early. Accountants know which output formats they can work with and which integrations they already rely on. Their preference on XBRL export alone can remove a week of year-end friction.
